LABST 021: Workplace Organizing

 We have two classes in organizing at Laney College:

  • Labst 021 - Workplace Organizing, a semester long 3 unit class that meets once a week for 3 hours. This class offers a comprehensive survey of workplace and community organizing.
  • Labst 202 - Union Organizing, A short, 3 day long, Saturday 1 unit class.  This class focuses on the skills needed to organize a union at a workplace.

These classes are electives in the Labor Studies certificate and AA degree programs.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Assess an organizing target for campaign potential;
  2. Create, plan and execute a workplace organizing campaign;
  3. Recruit and develop workplace leaders to support union or organizing needs; and 
  4. Apply labor law during representation elections.

 

 

Current Course Information

 Labor Studies 021: Workplace & Community Organizing was last offered in the Fall of 2005. It is usially offered in the Fall semester every other year.
