| The Laney College Music Department offers a rigorous course in Music History. Currently known as "Introduction to Music Literature," the two-semester class is based on the leading music history text: "A History of Western Music" (W.W. Norton). The first semester (music 12 A) starts with Mesopotamia and ends with Mozart. The second semester (12 B) begins with Beethoven and culminates in music of the present. Narrative history, listening examples, and theoretical concepts are explored together. Instructor John Reager holds two Master of Music degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, is a composer and a former AGMA tenor with the San Francisco Symphony. He has lectured about Music History at the Berkeley Public Library and on KPFA FM. For more information, please contact the instructor. |
