About the EOPS Department . . .
Extended Opportunity Program and Services (EOPS) was established in 1969 as a social reform program of the California Community Colleges. The program's initiating legislation, Senate Bill 164, encouraged the state's community colleges to develop programs and services to meet the unique educational needs of students challenged by language, social, and economic disadvantages, and provide programs and services over, above, and in addition to the regular educational courses of the college. EOPS’ primary goal is to encourage the enrollment, retention and transfer of students handicapped by language, social, economic and educational disadvantages, and to facilitate the successful completion of their goals and objectives in college.
About CARE . . .
Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) is a supplemental component of EOPS. It is designed to motivate, encourage and support single parents on Welfare (TANF) who desire job-relevant education in order to break the dependency cycle and become self-sufficient.
