UNEMPLOYED? The Departments of Education and Labor have established a new web site to assist those who are unemployed. Indeed, many unemployed individuals do not know they may be eligible for Pell Grants and other need-based student aid. Most also do not know of the ability of financial aid administrators to adjust financial aid eligibility based on their special circumstances. The web site provides information on financial aid, labor tools, and other key resources available for unemployed workers.

Will you be attending Laney College in fall 2010 and spring 2011? Then plan ahead. Beginning January 1, 2010 you will be able to complete you 2010-2011 FAFSA. The 2010-2011 FAFSA will be based on your 2009 income information. After applying you should print out your SAR and wait until you see our notices in late February telling you what day you may begin turning in your applications. Attention All 2009 - 2010 FAFSA Applicants If you are attending spring 2010 and still need to apply for financial aid you should do so immediately. Go to the FAFSA site complete your application and then print out your SAR and bring it to the Financial Aid Office on the 2nd floor of the Laney Tower. We have been accepting Student Aid Reports (SAR)for 2009 - 2010 school year since February of 2009. Bring your SAR to the Financial Aid Counter. The sooner you submit your application, the faster file will be processed. If you have not applied for your 2009 - 2010 Financial Aid you should do so now. Apply online @ http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ 2009 - 2010 Financial Aid is based on your 2008 income. Be prepared to show proof of income for 2008 and to provide copies of transcripts from all prior colleges and universities you have attended. You may be asked to provide other documentation or to fill out additional forms. Please go to Financial Aid Facts for more information.

APPLY NOW! All students must now apply for Financial Aid online at: For information and assistance, please visit our campus Financial Aid Office. If you have completed more that 90 units by July 2009 then you must petition to continue. You may ask for a 09-10 Petition Form at the Financial Aid Office counter. Students must apply each year beginning in January for the next academic year. Early applications receive first priority for available funds. Every effort will be made to offer assistance in the students' native languages.
