The Laney College Choir performs music in a wide variety of styles including: World Music, Classical Music, and Spirituals . In recent concerts, we have sung in Hawaiian, Hebrew, Latin, Luo, Mandarin, Portugese, Zulu, and other languages. Representative composers include: Bach, Bartók, Dave Brubeck, Copland, Emma Lou Diemer, Guillaume Du Fay, Duke Ellington, Jester Hairston, Palestrina, Thelonious Monk, Mozart, Pauline Oliveras, Salamone Rossi, Stravinsky, John Tavener, and Tomas Luis de Victoria.
Director John Reager holds Masters degrees in Vocal Performance and Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He studied conducting with David Conte, Anthony Pasqua, and Sonja Neblit. He was an AGMA tenor and soloist for eight seasons with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and has directed numerous choirs. He is published by G.I.A. in Chicago.
