John Reager holds Master of Music degrees in Composition and Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He was an AGMA tenor with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus for eight seasons. With the chorus, he participated in Recordings for RCA, London Records, and Paramount Pictures, and performed the role of Remandado in Bizet's Carmen and was tenor soloist for the premier of Anthony Korf's "Requiem." A member of ASCAP, he is published by G.I.A. in Chicago. His composition teachers include David Conte and Conrad Susa. He has given solo recitals as a composer, tenor, pianist, and organist.
Commissioned works include music for orchestra, chorus, chamber music and solo piano. He has conducted choral works by: Dufay, Ockeghem, Josquin de Prez, Palestrina, Victoria, Salamone Rossi, Bach, Handel, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Faure, Britten, Messiaen, Stravinsky, Tavener, Lauridsen, Conte, as well as his own music. He has given presentations in Music History on KPFA Radio and at the Berkeley Public Library. At Laney College since 2004, Mr. Reager directs the Laney College Choir and teaches Music History, Voice, and Piano.
